Sustainable bioenergy: our strengths

Our expertise is internationally recognised. It is supported by a team of specialists in bioenergy production in tropical and Mediterranean environments. With over 30 years of collaboration in Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and Europe, our team brings extensive field experience.

We adopt a comprehensive value chain approach, from biomass resources including wood, forest resources, agricultural residues and agro-industrial by-products, through to energy production for optimal system performance.

We have strong expertise in tropical biomass and its bioenergy valorisation, supported by advanced technological facilities including :

  • Laboratories for physico-chemical characterisation of solids, liquids, gases and conversion by-products ;
  • A 600 m² experimental platform equipped with reactors ranging from laboratory to pilot and pre-industrial scale, dedicated to gasification, pyrolysis, torrefaction and combustion, as well as engine testing facilities ;
  • A mobile sampling line for in situ analysis of permanent gases and collection of condensable products.

The research team
The biomass-to-energy experts of the BioWooEB Research Unit conduct studies on the alignment between feedstock resources, reactor and applications, with the aim of optimising conversion processes according to the characteristics of the input resource and the intended final use. Their work also focuses on the multi-criteria assessment of bioenergy production systems, including environmental, economic and social evaluation.
