2026: International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists

CIRAD is working for pastoralism

CIRAD is working alongside its partners to recognise the key role of rangelands and pastoralists in the ecological transition and the development of sustainable food systems. By means of scientific research, innovation and dialogue, we are helping to promote these resilient livestock production methods and support their inclusion in public policy.

2026 will recognise both pastoralism and woman farmers

The United Nations has also designated 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer, highlighting the often invisible yet vital role women play in agrifood systems, from production to decision making.

These two international years are therefore joining forces to put the contributions of women crop and livestock farmers centre stage and promote more inclusive, equitable food systems.

Discover the events, teaching resources and practical tools CIRAD and its partners have to offer in relation to these global dynamics. Conferences, exhibitions, publications, videos and podcasts will all make it easier to understand the issues surrounding pastoralism, discover the grassroots stakeholders involved and work alongside them.
