Pastoralism and Rio Conventions: triggering synergies for resilient ecosystems
Pastoralism is much more than a livestock farming method: it is a vital lever for tackling challenges lied to the climate, biodiversity and the fight against desertification. This position paper highlights the contributions pastoral systems can make to sustainable ecosystem management, food security, and the livelihoods of millions of people. Based on scientific knowledge and feedback on grassroots experiences, CIRAD is calling for the strategic role of pastoral territories to be given greater consideration during the rollout of the three Rio Conventions.
