One Health Summit

The One Health Summit will be held in Lyon on 7 April 2026, World Health Day. With the participation of CIRAD.

One Health Summit scientific conference

On 6 April, to mark the One Health Summit, there will be a high-level scientific conference organised by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space with support from Thierry Lefrançois, One Health expert  at CIRAD and member of the French Committee for the Monitoring and Anticipation of Health Risks (COVARS), and Éric Cardinale, Scientific Director for Animal Health and Welfare at ANSES. The programme includes roundtables on the four Summit topics: zoonotic and vector-borne diseases, antimicrobial resistance, sustainable food systems, and exposure to pollutions.

One Health Summit

On 7 April, the One Health International Summit will for the first time bring together Heads of State and government, representatives of international and regional organisations, parliamentarians, scientists and players from the private sector, civil society, territorial authorities, development banks and young people. This mobilisation is aimed at accelerating the rollout of the One Health approach, founded on the interdependence of human, animal and environmental health.

The aim of the Summit is to strengthen international and interdisciplinary dialogue, adjust cooperation frameworks, and encourage concrete commitments to consolidate health and surveillance systems to cope with health, food and environmental risks. 
The work done will centre on the central role of science and innovation, promotion of multilateral action, the development of public-private partnerships and the inclusive participation of the different stakeholders. 
Four topics will structure the exchanges: zoonotic reservoirs and vectors, antimicrobial resistance, sustainable food systems, and exposure to pollutions.

The One Health Discoveries Village: public awareness-raising and discussions

Sunday 5 and Monday 6 April, Parc de la Tête d'Or, Lyon

To encourage mobilisation and appropriation of the One Health approach by a range of players, Expertise France, with the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, is organising a "One Health Discoveries Village" in Lyon, in the Parc de la Tête d’Or (Petite Suisse area). 

The Village is intended to make the One Health approach both concrete and accessible, by highlighting the interactions between human, animal and environmental health, with a view to prevention, resilience and transition. It will be open to the general public, families, young people, citizens and non-specialist professionals, and will offer fun opportunities to learn, raise awareness and meet experts.

One Health Festival

Around the One Health Summit, there will be a One Health Festival from 30 March to 12 April 2026. It is being organised by the One Planet Summit, and is intended to shine the spotlight on and federate initiatives illustrating the One Health approach. This integrated vision stresses the interdependence of human, animal and environmental health and encourages the rollout of coordinated actions on every scale.

France

Preventing pandemics at source: a One Health approach, from local to global

6 April 2026, Lyon (France), 18:30-20:00, organised by the PREZODE initiative in partnership with AVSF, FOUR PAWS, ILRI, WCS, the Independent Panel for Epidemic Preparedness and Response, WOAH and the World Bank.
This event will focus on the importance of the One Health approach for transforming global governance. It will highlight its role in preventing pandemics, as an essential pillar for action on a national, regional and international level, in addition to preparedness and response mechanisms. It will also shine a spotlight on the significant progress enabled by the adoption of the Pandemic Agreement and contribute to preparations for the 2026 High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response.

Upscaling the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) to control Aedes mosquitoes, in a One Health perspective

8 April 2026, Montpellier (France), organised by dP CaribVET and dP One Health OI, in partnership with CIRAD.
This international workshop will present the advances made in terms of the sterile insect technique to control Aedes mosquitoes, which carry diseases such as dengue and chikungunya. The discussions will cover the automation of mechanisms, surveillance tools, and large-scale deployment strategies.

Africa - Indian Ocean

ASEACA/COHESA regional workshop: Co-designing a regional One Health network

24-26 March 2026, Harare (Zimbabwe), organised by ILRI in partnership with CIRAD and ISAAA.
To mark its final year, the COHESA project is organising a regional workshop for participants from 12 countries in East and southern Africa, along with representatives of the partners in the quadripartite collaboration, Africa CDC, the African Union, the European Union and the World Bank.
The workshop follows on from the participatory process launched in Cape Town in September 2024, aimed at preparing for the establishment of a regional One Health network to take over from the COHESA network. The discussions will cover the objectives, structure, governance, action plan and funding mechanisms of the future network.

One Health Indian Ocean platform in partnership (dP) scientific meetings

25-26 March 2026, Antanarivo (Madagascar), organised by dP One Health OI, with the participation of CIRAD.
The members and partners of the One Health Indian Ocean platform are due to meet in Madagascar for its scientific and Steering Committee meetings. The five Indian Ocean Commission member countries (Union of the Comoros, Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar and France) will be represented.

CaribVET network General Assembly

23-25 March 2026, Oranjestad (Aruba), organised by the CaribVET platform in partnership (dP) with CIRAD. 
The regional animal health community will be meeting for the seventh General Assembly of the CaribVET network. The participants are due to share epidemiological data and risk analyses, and explore the opportunities for regional cooperation on the One Health approach.

Asia - Pacific

Launch of ASEACA Philippines: prevention and early warning

26-27 March 2026, Manila (Philippines), organised by SEARCA, in partnership with ILRI and CIRAD. 
This event, being organised with the support of the French Embassy in the Philippines, will mark the launch of ASEACA Philippines, the national component of the PREACTS programme, devoted to preventing zoonoses at the human, animal and environmental health interface. This side event will bring together players from the health, agriculture, environment and research sectors and civil society, to draft a shared prevention and early warning programme. It will also include a presentation of the priorities identified in Pampanga and Bukidnon provinces and the first stages of implementation for 2026-2027.

Mapping community One Health interventions for prevention and early warning

31 March 2026, Bangkok (Thailand), organised by APCASO in partnership with CIRAD. 
This workshop aims to identify and analyse One Health initiatives led by civil society in several Asian countries. Participants will work to draft recommendations to strengthen disease prevention, improve health monitoring and support community action.

One Health research on zoonotic and vector-borne diseases to inform public health decisions in Cambodia

1 April 2026, Phnom Penh (Cambodia), organised by the Institut Pasteur de Cambodge in partnership with IMCC-OH. With the participation of CIRAD.
Cambodia faces zoonotic and vector-borne disease risks linked to interactions between humans, animals and the environment. Managing threats such as avian influenza and dengue calls for a coordinated one Health approach. The workshop aims to foster collaboration between players to improve prevention of and responses to such diseases.

Agricultural perspective on the One Health approach

2 April 2026, Phnom Penh (Cambodia), organised by IMCC-OH in partnership with CIRAD and IRD. 
This conference will look into the interactions between agriculture, biodiversity and public health. The discussions will cover sustainable farming practices, chemical use and the role of public policy in transforming food systems. An exhibition will showcase projects and innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture and food security in Cambodia.

AquASEAN: circular aquaculture and global health for sustainable aquatic systems in Southeast Asia

2-3 April 2026, Bangkok (Thailand), organised by SCAC in partnership with CIRAD. 
This event marks the launch of the AquASEAN project, a regional initiative led by CIRAD with the support of the French Embassy to ASEAN (Jakarta), the French Embassy in Thailand, and regional councillors for agricultural affairs based in Hanoi and Singapore and approved by the ASEAN Secretariat. Researchers, public institutions and stakeholders from the sector will discussing innovations aimed at boosting biosecurity, reducing chemical input use and making aquaculture systems more resilient.

Reducing pesticide and antimicrobial use in tropical agriculture, for human and ecosystem health

Date to be confirmed, webinar organised by CIRAD in partnership with EAT Foundation and the Montpellier Process.
This online event will look into the links between antimicrobial and pesticide use and their impacts on human, animal and environmental health. Experts and participants will be analysing the risks of over-use of such biocides and highlighting the parallels between antimicrobial resistance and dependence on pesticides.
