Montpellier Controversy Academy no. 1: Should we ban meat from our plates?

The Controversy Academy set up by Agropolis International and CIRAD looks into agricultural, food and environmental issues.

The first debate organised by the Montpellier Controversy Academy (MOCA) will be held in the afternoon of 14 October 2026 at Agropolis International, on the topic of "Should we ban meat from our plates?".

In many countries, meat consumption has come under scrutiny for a range of ethical, health or environmental reasons. In Europe, meat consumption has fallen and vegetarianism is on the rise. It now concerns 12% of 18- to 35-year-olds. What position should stakeholders in food systems in Europe and the global South be taking on the subject? Should we ban meat from our plates?
