CIRAD and the Agence française de développement will be at the Paris International Agricultural Show, from 22 February to 2 March 2025. The two organizations, which both work for the development of tropical and Mediterranean countries, have chosen "Agriculture, environment, societies: our shared health" as the topic for this year's stand.
See you in Pavilion 4, aisle C, stand 181
An educational but fun stand for everyone
At the 61st Paris International Agricultural Show, CIRAD and AFD invite you to discover the "One Health" approach and explore the links between human, animal and environmental health through a series of events and activities. Visitors will also be able to find out more about the role of nutrition and understand its connection with the One Health approach.
A space to receive and talk with professionals
In terms of professional meetings, CIRAD and AFD will receive partners and institutional and political representatives from all horizons on the stand, to talk about the One Health approach, a topic that highlights the interdependence of different types of health while also considering the issues surrounding climate change and sustainable development.
Conference: "One Health: transforming food systems to benefit health and nutrition"
Monday 24 February 2025, 15:00-17:30, Hall 1, Room 121 DE.
The conference will be looking at the links between the different types of health and nutrition, through a series of presentations and a roundtable.
Food systems have a direct impact on human, animal and environmental health. They cannot be transformed in response to ecological, climate and health challenges without taking an integrated approach that considers those interdependencies, in line with a One Health rationale. The transition requires strong action on a territory level, where biodiversity plays a key role. It also requires that each and every stakeholder be involved, from farmers' organizations to policymakers, to fuel appropriate, sustainable policies.
Come and talk to experts and grassroots players about the levers required to build more resilient food systems to benefit everyone.
A series of side events
During the Paris International Agricultural Show, you will also be able to follow a series of side events, either on site or on line.
Tuesday 25 February
Agri-Health: Towards sustainable, health-friendly agrifood systems
15:00-16:30, on the CIRAD-AFD stand
This side event follows on from the Agrihealth workshop organized by CIRAD and ILRI, bringing together experts and stakeholders from the CGIAR, French research institutions and international organizations to step up collaboration on resilient agrifood systems (RAFS), focusing on the Agri-Health nexus.
In looking at the links between agriculture and health, this side event will highlight the environmental and health impacts of farming practices and identify actions to reduce the risks and promote sustainable food systems.
Further information to follow.
Strengthening African dairy value chains: the support expected from public aid systems - private
16:30-17:30, on the CNIEL stand - Pavilion 1, level 0 – L083
The Foundation for Agriculture and Rurality in the World (FARM), Agriculteurs français et développement international (AFDI) and CIRAD are jointly organizing a debate on the development of African dairy chains.
In a context in which demand for dairy products is set to double by 2050, the discussions will look at the development challenges for local chains and the opportunities for cooperation between African and European players to foster the sustainable development of the dairy sector. The debate will cover the challenges facing African dairy chains, notably collection infrastructures, promoting local products, and the role of cooperatives, while making recommendations to support local production, strengthen EU trade and agricultural policy, and encourage responsible investment in the sector.
Wednesday 26 February
From fertilization to soil fertility: a key challenge for soil health and food sovereignty in Africa
10:00-12:00, on the CIRAD-AFD stand
Growing population pressure, climate disruption, economic crises and political unrest are all putting unprecedented pressure on soils and their fertility. The FARM Foundation and AFD, in collaboration with CIRAD, are organizing the presentation of a study conducted in partnership (COPAR) of soil fertility renewal in West Africa.

Scientific collaboration to anticipate vector-borne diseases more efficiently
15:00-15:30, on the ANSES stand, Pavilion 4, aisle B, stand 126
Scientific meeting organized by ANSES, in partnership with the Fédération nationale des groupements de défense sanitaire (GDS France), CIRAD and the Office Français de la Biodiversité.
Thursday 27 February
Small-scale fish farming: a key to the resilience of family farms and sustainable rural development
15:00-16:30, on the CIRAD-AFD stand
Small-scale fish farming is a major opportunity for family farmers. Including this agroecological activity in a diversified farming system enables rural families to increase their resilience, diversify their income and contribute to local food and nutrition security, while fighting certain diseases. Despite those benefits, there are still constraints on the expansion of small-scale fish farming: access to inputs, a lack of outlets, value chain structuring, etc. This side event aims to promote the importance of long-term support for small-scale fish farming and of collaboration between public, private and scientific players to optimize its impact.

For nutrition-sensitive food systems
15:00-16:30, on the CIRAD-AFD stand
Nutrition is a core issue for CIRAD and AFD, which are keen to include the topic more effectively in food system transformations. Malnutrition, in all its forms – malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies or obesity – has irreversible consequences for people's physical and cognitive development, with direct repercussions on wellbeing and on territorial economies. More than just a health issue, promoting nutrition within food systems enables the adoption of an overall, systemic approach, in which agroecology plays a key part. This side event will highlight the importance of transforming food systems to ensure better nutrition, while showing how agroecological practices can contribute.
