Plant Communities and Biological Invaders in Tropical Environments - UMR PVBMT

Joint Research Unit (UMR) BIOS Department
UMR PVBMT develops innovative control methods against pests, diseases and weeds in agrosystems, but also new ways of conserving indigenous forest environments. Its associated research and training concern tropical crop protection and biodiversity preservation in terrestrial ecosystems.

It is based at the Plant Protection Pole (3P) laboratories in Saint-Pierre, Réunion.

The UMR aims to improve crop protection and preservation of natural ecosystems by studying plant epidemiology (epidemiosurveillance and adaptation of phytopathogenic microorganisms), insect population dynamics and trophic interactions, the genetics and characterization of plant resistance to pests and diseases, and the endemism and invasion of natural terrestrial ecosystems in island environments.
