Cultivated species affected by emerging diseases

This project responds to a context of climate change and the loss of cultivated species, linked to emerging diseases. It remains important to identify species and varieties, to protect and preserve them, and to enhance understanding of methods for controlling pests and diseases.

Four key areas: identification, assessment, enhancement and structuring

The project strategy is organised as follows:

    Identifying and preserving genetic resources (yams, citrus fruits, bananas, forest and fruit species) while supporting exchanges through good practices;
    Assessing the performance of varieties to identify the most resilient and best suited to the sectors;
    Enhancing biodiversity through processing, varietal selection and improved practices;
    Structuring a sustainable network (CARIBIODIV Network) to foster sharing, capitalisation and stakeholder training.

Expected results

The project will support resilient and profitable agriculture, improved food security, sustainable forest management and stronger institutions, in line with the priorities of INTERREG Caribbean.
