Fifth edition of the FAO Science and Innovation Forum (SIF 2026). With the participation of CIRAD.

This edition, under the heading "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.", will bring together scientists, policymakers, farmers, innovators and other development players to address a shared issue: harnessing knowledge, technology and innovation to build more sustainable, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems. CIRAD will be participating in the talks at the Forum via a side event devoted to science-policy dialogue and a stand on the bioenergy innovations developed by the BioStar project.

Lost in translation? Strengthening science–policy interfaces for evidence-informed decision-making

Wednesday 14 October 2026, 8:30-10:00, Green Room (A-127 bis)

This session will look at the conditions for turning scientific knowledge into decisions, policy and actions for food security and agrifood systems.

It will cover the role of national science advisory systems, their connection across global, regional, national and sub-national levels, and how the capacity of officials to demand and use evidence can be strengthened. The session will also present a joint FAO-CIRAD framework for the assessment of science-policy interface ecosystems, and an FAO online course on the topic.

Conception collaborative de technologies bioénergétiques innovantes

Wednesday 14 October 2026, 15:00-17:00, FAO Atrium

CIRAD will be presenting the Biostar project, which works with local stakeholders to develop technologies to convert agrifood processing residues into clean, affordable energy for SMEs in rural parts of Africa. More than 40 bioenergy systems have been deployed in 20 SMEs, delivering technical, environmental and socio-economic benefits, notably in terms of working conditions and women's empowerment.
