The Future of Food and Agriculture

A conference by Lorenzo Bellu, senior economist and head of foresight at FAO, organized by CIRAD, INRAE, IRD and Agropolis International.

At the invitation of CIRAD, INRAE, IRD and Agropolis, Lorenzo Bellu, senior economist and head of foresight at FAO, presented the report on "The Future of Food and Agriculture" published by FAO. This report focuses on the drivers and triggers for transformation.

The conference was followed by a round table with Denis Lacroix (Plan Bleu and IFREMER), Véronique Bellon-Maurel (INRAE), Laurent Cournac (IRD), Marie de Lattre-Gasquet (CIRAD) and Patrick Caron (Agropolis International).

Philippe Petithuguenin, CIRAD's Director General in charge of Research and Strategy, concluded the round table by stressing that the FAO and the research community must work together to move towards the "Trading off for sustainability" scenario. This means reconnecting the local, meso and global scales, bringing together all stakeholders and generations, and training the next generation to imagine the future (future literacy).
