Harnessing the potential of agroecology in Southeast Asia to transform food systems to become sustainable

In the framework of the 4th International Conference of the Sustainable Food Systems Programme of the One Planet Network, the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences is organizing a side event on agroecological innovations for food systems transformation.

The side event "Harnessing the Potential of Agroecology in Southeast Asia for Sustainable Food Systems", organized in partnership with CIRAD, CIFOR-ICRAF, FAO, IPSARD and other partners from the ASSET project, explores agroecological innovations and initiatives as key approach for food system transformation which positively impacts a range of SDGs.

Through showcasing concrete tools and pathways at various scales in SEA countries, it will discuss how the 13 actionable agroecological principles (HLPE, 2019) underlie and have been combined by a wide range of actors to build up sustainable food systems through agroecology. It thereby intends to help improve the recommendations and guides for actions and policies developed by the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) and FAO, and accelerate the uptake of agroecology approach to strengthen the sustainability of food systems; and to increase partnership on agroecology transition in SEA. This event is to be a milestone towards building a regional agroecology coalition. Besides, in the process, it is to build capacity and improve awareness on agroecological approach and actions towards sustainable food systems.
