Roots and tubers roadmap summary. The road to sustainable root and tuber growing [2023-2033]

Tropical value chains

Roots and tubers play a major role in the food security of the poorest populations, especially in Africa, where these plants are highly prized. CIRAD has identified four research priorities that will guide its work on root and tuber growing between now and 2033:

  • Foster root and tuber varietal diversity
  • Make roots and tubers more productive, through agroecology
  • Contribute to root and tuber market development
  • Build skills and back support policies

This document summarizes CIRAD's roadmap for the next ten years. The ambitions presented for sustainable root and tuber production are shared for discussion with CIRAD's current and future partners: roots@cirad.fr
