CIRAD's 2018 Activities Report is on line. In a new format this year, it places greater emphasis on the scientific results obtained by our researchers. It also sums up our operations with our partners, and contains a focus on agroecology, the topic for this year's collective work co-published by CIRAD and AFD.

The year 2018 confirmed the major transitions underway worldwide: climate, population growth, food security, etc. CIRAD, with its partners in both North and South, has a remit that is more legitimate than ever: to contribute, through research, to the sustainable development of farming systems and rural societies in the global South.

Agroecology was chosen as the annual topic for 2018. It provides a framework for the changes to be promoted for farming systems the world over, and is attracting growing interest in both North and South, on a local level and on the part of global institutions.

Lastly, 2018 was marked by the substantial renewal of CIRAD's governing bodies and the drafting of a programming document centring on the scientific and partnership strategy objectives that constitute CIRAD's road map for the coming five years.

This new report contains more illustrations, and stresses the fundamental priorities for CIRAD:

  • scientific research as a development driver
  • multi-scale expertise and
  • the principle of partnerships, illustrated by an interview with one of our scientific partners.
