In the West Indies and French Guiana, CIRAD has experimental and observation sites and advanced technology platforms of use in studying and promoting local biodiversity and resources. This enables it to work with regional research and higher education partners to boost its expertise, notably in terms of animal and plant health risk management.
In Guadeloupe : a staff of 130 on four sites, two molecular and cellular biology laboratories, a radioelement laboratory, a cryopreservation block, a reference GPS station, equipment for healthy in vitro plantlet propagation and production, an immunology and biotechnology platform, and 63 hectares of experimental plots.
In French Guiana : a staff of 66, including 16 researchers, around ten PhD students, VSOs and other students, based at the agricultural research campus and the Pariacabo workshop in Kourou, or at the Paracou, Pointe Combi and Mana stations. Training of young people from French Guiana. Experimental plots, laboratories (molecular genetics, plant pathology, wood science), nurseries, and living cocoa, coffee, rubber, fodder crop and exotic forest species collections.
In Martinique : the Martinique Agricultural Research Pole (PRAM), which covers 2500 m², is home to around a hundred staff members from CEMAGREF, the IRD and CIRAD, including 17 researchers, 20 technicians, 10 PhD students, and other students. Advanced scientific equipment that has been modernized with a view to certification of the installations.
