Annual Cropping Systems

Unit website
Internal Research Unit (UPR) - UPR SCA

In the light of the recent crises in terms of commodity prices, resource use and environmental management, it is now essential to find ways of producing that are not only efficient but also more ecofriendly, economical, varied and resilient, to ensure that farmers in developing countries live better in future.

One ambition : to design efficient, sustainable annual crop production systems , from an economic, social and environmental point of view.
Assets : recognized expertise and multidiscplinary teams working for the main tropical crop production systems.
Fields of expertise : analyses of genotype-environment interactions, bioenergies, entomology, ecophysiology, agronomy and technology, applied to sugarcane and cotton . This expertise is boosted by that of the members of a team from UMR SYSTEM.
Five operational teams :

  • Annual cropping system design and assessment - CESCA
  • Characterization and integrated management of biotic risks - CARABE
  • Elaboration and characterization of the quality of annual cropping system products - Qualité
  • Remote sensing, information systems, simulation techniques and spatial analyses - ARTISTS
  • Sustainable cropping and rice-based systems - SCRID

Scientific department:
  • Performance of Tropical Production and Processing Systems
