Animal and Integrated Risk Management
Internal Research Unit (UPR) - UPR
AGIRS
Wild and domestic animals can, by their nature, functions and uses, be a source of danger or of vulnerability in terms of health, the environment and development. In view of this, the scientists working for the AGIRS research unit have opted to centre their research on the sanitary risks that make communities, societies or agro-ecosystems in the South more fragile.
The unit aims to:
- Identify and assess, through surveillance facilities (observatories), the real or preceived sanitary risks linked to animals that could threaten health and, as a consequence, the development and security os societies in the South;
- Understand and quantify the structural and functional factors and mechanisms that determine the appearance and severity of the risks linked to wild and domestic animals;
- Use models and scenarios to develop and test integrated prevention, management and intervention tools to monitor, prevent and limit the causes and consequences of these risks.
