Research on coconut is primarily conducted by national research systems in producer countries, working together in networks supported by CIRAD.
The International Coconut Genetic Resources Network (COGENT), with 38 member producing countries, now has a database on all the living collections worldwide, and facilitates exchanges between countries.
The Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) is another intergovernmental organization associating 15 countries that account for more than 90% of global coconut production and product exports.
The aim of these organizations is to ensure a sustainable improvement in productivity and in producer incomes, by promoting and diversifying the range of coconut products. Both the above organizations have helped conduct numerous research programmes on a wide range of topics relating to the coconut commodity chain.
