"Migration and agriculture: here and there"
The question of migration is beginning to be discussed on a world level. There are almost 200 million migrants worldwide. True migration policy thus needs to allow people to move within a concerted framework that respects the interests of all the stakeholders concerned. This is the main issue for globalization on a human scale in the 21st century.
During the SFER meeting, on Thursday 10 December in the Belvédère room at the Montpellier Corum , there will be lecture-debate on "Migration and agriculture: here and there", with the participation of Flore Gubert (Institut de recherche pour le développement - IRD), Florent Desnoyer ("Migrations & développement" ONG) and Louis Bretton (Collectif de défense des travailleurs saisonniers - CODETRAS), led by Damien Conaré (Courrier de la planète).
The following questions will be addressed:
- What determines international migration?
- What effect do those factors have on rural development in the country of origin?
- What is the situation for seasonal agricultural workers when they reach their destination?
- What types of international solidarity are prompted by migration?
