05/06/2009 - Press release
On Wednesday 10 June 2009, Ms Anne-Yvonne Le Dain, Vice-President of the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Council, will be officially opening the ELSA research platform at Agropolis International (Montpellier), in the presence of representatives of the founding organizations, industrialists and research teams working on life cycle analysis (LCA). The event will be an opportunity for the teams to present the progress made in their work and their current projects.
The ELSA team was set up in 2008 as part of the Ecotech LR regional platform, which was founded to structure regional research on ecotechnologies and promote the sector. The team comprises researchers, engineers and teachers, all specializing in environmental assessments or industrial ecology applied to agro-bioprocesses (energy production from biomass, agricultural products, agricultural technologies, water, waste and effluent management, territories, etc), from laboratories at the five founding organizations: CEMAGREF, CIRAD, INRA, the Ecole des Mines in Alès, and Montpellier SupAgro.
The main task set for the ELSA team is to initiate and sustain a scientific dynamic enabling the development of advanced research on sustainable development tools for agro- and bioprocesses. The methods, tools and skills generated by this multidisciplinary team that is unique in France are made available to industrialists and disseminated through starter and refresher training courses. Thanks to its specific expertise in terms of LCA, this young, very small team (six full-time post equivalents) is widely recognized in the French research sector.
A press breakfast
is planned as of 9:00 am, at Agropolis International, to present the ELSA team and representatives of the founding organizations.
