After just a year, Agritrop, the open archive for CIRAD publications, is 8th in the French open archive rankings. It has also been highly successful on a European and global level. This is a remarkable result for CIRAD, reflecting its determination to improve free circulation of scientific knowledge worldwide.
After just a year, Agritrop, the open archive for CIRAD publications, has made an impressive entrance on the global Ranking Web of Repositories (2016) published by the SCIC Cybermetrics Lab.
Agritrop is 8th out of 117 French open archives, behind HAL-SHS, HAL-Inria, Archimer (IFREMER), @rchiveSIC), Horizon (IRD), OATAO (University of Toulouse) and Pastel Theses (ParisTech).
With a view to joining the move towards free access to scientific knowledge, CIRAD decided in 2015 to convert its publications base into an institutional open archive. That archive has since been indexed by search engines and gives CIRAD's publications and co-publications with its partners in the South greater visibility.
In 2016, Agritrop comprised more than 96 000 references, including 28 000 full-text documents on agricultural research and rural development in southern countries, with 16 000 on open access.
Agritrop is constantly updated, with more than 3000 publications references added each year.
"This 8th place after just a year confirms the visibility our institutional open archive gives CIRAD's publications and co-publications," says Marie-Claude Deboin, Scientific and Technical Information Coordinator. "It also demonstrates our researchers' commitment: they are the ones who trigger the promotional process by depositing the full text version of their publications on line."
In Europe, Agritrop is 177th out of 903 open archives.
Globally, it is 405th out of 2275.
