The CIRAD website is now available in a version optimized for smartphone screens. This mobile version is easier to navigate and more comfortable to read, to facilitate access to information. This is an advantage for anyone wanting to know more about CIRAD, particularly in Africa, where for want of other infrastructures, information is primaily accessed via smartphones.
To allow users to view the CIRAD website comfortably on handheld devices, a mobile-friendly version is now available. The new version is tailored to the specificities of such devices, with a new design specifically for small screens. The pages have been restructured for easy reading of the content on offer.
The new version should facilitate access for anyone looking for information about CIRAD on their smartphone. This particularly concerns users in southern countries, which are a priority for CIRAD in view of its mandate: as of 2017, while Internet traffic on mobiles accounts for just 39% of the total traffic in Europe, the figure is more than 68% in Asia and 60% in Africa (source: StatCounter).
As long ago as 2015, Africa in particular already had 560 million mobile phone users, and phone use had grown exponentially (+ 70% between 2010 and 2015) as a result of underdeveloped web infrastructures. Moreover, users should soon have access to smartphones produced in Africa and sold at low prices by a South African firm, the first and as yet the only telephone manufacturer in Africa.
