Direct sowing under a cover crop improves degraded soils in Laos

The grassland savannahs in Laos are depleted acid lands that are little used. They are also subject to increasing population pressure. A study by CIRAD and its partners has demonstrated the particularly significant effect of direct sowing under a cover crop, an agro-ecological technique, in improving such soils, which could be converted into agricultural land and, provided the right crop techniques are used, serve to increase and sustain agricultural production in these regions.
