David Nabarro: “Agronomic research must meet the needs of small farmers”

09/09/2011 - Article

VIDEOS. What should the priorities be for world agronomic research? Answers in pictures in an exclusive interview with David Nabarro, special representative for food security and nutrition of Mr Ban Ki-Moon, secretary general of the United Nations.

For David Nabarro, special representative for food security and nutrition of Mr Ban Ki-Moon, the security general of the United Nations, support to small farmers, particularly women, should be the sole aim of world agronomic research. It is important to help them adapt and be aware of their needs in the face of a changing environment.

David Nabarro is also the coordinator of the expert team for food security and nutrition established by the United Nations Organisation in 2008. According to David Nabarro “there is no food security without a system capable of dealing with populations’ immediate needs at the same time as long-term structural problems”.
