The
3rd European Forum on Rural Development is to be held in Palencia, Spain, from 29 March to 1 April 2011. The event follows on from the 1st Forum, held in Montpellier in 2002, and the 2nd Forum in Berlin in 2007.
Since 2002, it has been organized by the European Commission Directorate General for Development.

On Wednesday 20 March, it will be organizing a work session on "Linking smallholder farmers to efficient markets" in coordination with its partners from the University of Wageningen and the National Research Institute , which are also members of Agrinatura . The exchanges during this session will also be backed up by the bibliographical study on the same topic, conducted recently by CIRAD, and on presentations of case studies from Vietnam, Costa Rica, Tanzania, Ghana and Kenya. It will also be participating in a side event on rural demography, migrations and links between urban and rural agriculture , organized by the Agence française pour le développement.
