Agronomie. Plantes cultivées et systèmes de culture

06/09/2010 - Article

The Agropolis International association has just published its 12th dossier. Several researchers from CIRAD have made a considerable contribution to the drafting of this publication.

Agronomists are often confronted with a major challenge: inventing and promoting agricultural systems capable of providing enough food to feed 9 billion people, ensuring that products are of sufficiently good quality to guarantee health and well-being for all, in such a way that minimises the environmental impact of agricultural activities.

This research on cultivated plants and crop systems is one of the centres of excellence of the scientific community Agropolis International. IT seeks to develop sustainable solutions adapted to various contexts: temperate, Mediterranean or tropical countries, large mechanised farms or smallholdings, local food production or industrial and export crops.

A summary of this issue:

* Ensuring production that combines quality and quantity
* Minimising the impact of crops on biogeochemical cycles
* Controlling populations of bio-aggressors and optimising the use of phytosanitary products
* Preserving water resources
* Designing and diffusing innovative practices
* Themes covered by the research team
* Involvement in international networks
* Training at Agropolis International
