In the framework of the Sirma and Wademed projects, four DVDs illustrate the farmers’ struggle with water shortage in Algeria and Morocco.
Since the recurrent droughts of 1999 and 2003, water, source of life and the motor for agricultural development, is scarce in the Maghreb. In order to illustrate the struggle farmers are facing with this shortage, four DVDs have been made within the framework of the Sirma and Wademed projects, which are dedicated to water management in the irrigated zones in Algeria and Morocco. Portraits, stories, trajectories of young rural people, men and women, reveal their daily lives. The films depict the successes, failures and projects resolutely looking to the future.
The two films, Our land is worth gold and Tomorrow still needs doing , were shown at the Lama rural film festival in Haute-Corse.
The two films, Joined by Water and Destiny within reach , can be seen on the Sirma project website.
