CIRAD at the 2009 Paris International Agricultural Show

03/02/2009 - Article

From 21 February to 1 March 2009, CIRAD and its partners will be placing fruits and vegetables in the spotlight at the Paris International Agricultural Show. A conference on "Fruits and vegetables, foods and health for developing countries" is scheduled for 24 February.

An international conference on 24 February
A conference on Fruits and vegetables, foods and health for developing countries is to be held in the Salle Océanie on Tuesday 24 February, from 9 am to 6 pm.
Fruits and vegetables are vital components in the diet in both developing and industrialized countries, in terms of quality and quantity. Among other things, they serve to control nutritional deficiencies and counter the explosion in chronic diseases (diabetes, obesity, cancer, cardiovascular and brain diseases, etc). However, they are also sources of income, generating added value from producers to distributors, and can be seen as a means of alleviating poverty. How can they be promoted with a view to satisfying the quantitative and qualitative demands of different markets, while ensuring sustainability? How can we make them more available? What plans of action are required? These questions, and many others, will be discussed during the conference.
