TRASHCAM, a cotton defect counter

Hull fragments and insect honeydew are the main sources of cotton contamination. To optimize spinning performance and control product quality, TRASHCAM establishes the number of hull fragments in cotton samples. A mat of fibres or a spun thread is placed on a scanner. The image captured is analysed by a software that counts the hull fragments in the sample and generates a histogramme showing their size distribution.

TRASHCAM comprises:

• Cirad analysis software.
• Scanner.
• Thread bobbin.
• Plate (24 x 17 cm).

TRASHCAM counts all types of debris, large and small, in both threads and raw fibre.
